This is a never fail recipe for cooking perfect quinoa every time.
  • ½ cup organic quinoa
  • At least 3 cups of water
  1. Put quinoa into your pot and fill with lots of water. No need to measure the water, but make sure the ratio is at least six times as much to the quinoa. More water is fine (but we don't want to go nuts and waste too much!).
  2. Place over high heat with a lid on until it comes to the boil, then remove lid, turn heat down to low and simmer for about 15 minutes.
  3. Test before draining (just as you would rice or pasta).
  4. If it is split and edible then drain it through a fine sieve and you are ready to go.
  5. If you want to eat it cold, run some cold water from the tap through it.

Welcome to the quinoa hub of www. Find out everything you need to know about cooking quinoa, fifty quinoa recipes and ten fast fabulous facts about this superfood.

Since giving up gluten (and giving up daily sandwiches and rolls), I’ve been eating quinoa at least once or twice a week. And I am ashamed to admit it, but at first it baffled me.

The cooking instructions are so precise and I tend to wander around the kitchen (and the rest of the house for that matter) whilst cooking so often came back to dried out crunchy bits of quinoa that aren’t very appetizing.

So, I decided to treat it like rice. I don’t know about you, but I can rarely (with the exception of sushi rice) get rice to cook properly using the absorption method. So now I just use heaps more water and set the timer. And that’s what I decided to do with quinoa.

If you don’t like standing and patiently stirring, watching your quinoa, seeing if it is going to stick then this is for you. And for busy mums I really think this is the safest (yes, I’m sure quinoa could end up burning!) and easiest way to cook quinoa all of the time.

Hence it shall now be know as The Lazy Persons Guide to Cooking Quinoa.

I cannot understand why it is so hard for people to cook rice or quinoa. I’m sorry for those of you that DO find it difficult. It is just a 1 part rice or quinoa to 2 parts water. Bring the water to a boil, pour in rice or quinoa, put the cover on pan and set the heat to low. It takes about 20 minutes to cook. With the quinoa, when you see the little rings on the outside of the grain, it is done. I have been cooking for about 46 yrs and I learned from my mother and reading directions on the packages. Thank you for these quinoa recipes. I am sure I will put them to good use.

I steam my rice using a bowl with some water in over the rice and place in my steamer, it cooks very fast. I have one of those three tiered steamers.
